Our Upcoming Production:
Kafka's Monkey by Colin Teevan
Based on 'A Report to an Academy' by Franz Kafka
Starring Penny McDonald
Directed by Jacob Golding
May 21-25, 2025
Peacock Theatre, Hobart
Kafka’s Monkey is a gripping, thought-provoking theatrical experience exploring identity, captivity, and the human condition. Starring acclaimed performer Penny McDonald and directed by Jacob Golding, this adaptation of Franz Kafka’s A Report to an Academy follows Red Peter, a former ape forced to evolve into human form to escape captivity.
Through his unsettling monologue, Red Peter recounts his transformation with dark humor and raw emotion, compelling audiences to reflect on survival, conformity, and the cost of assimilation. Penny McDonald delivers a masterful performance, embodying Red Peter with striking physicality, while Golding’s direction heightens the intensity of this immersive experience.
More than a Kafka retelling, Kafka’s Monkey is a powerful reflection on human nature and societal expectations. Ideal for those who appreciate bold storytelling, this unforgettable production challenges perspectives and lingers long after the curtain falls.
Don’t miss it at the Peacock Theatre this May!
